I believe in having dreams, but I also believe you need the enthusiasm and guts to put them into action. One dream that I never
believed in was that I could be happy in a romantic relationship. I had to wait until I was in my sixties, but what Joe and I have
found together is truly heaven sent. We live and work together sharing the closeness of our family and those who come on holiday.
We love watching holiday makers come and enjoy the simply way of life here. Fossil hunting or playing cricket on the sands like
generation of families before them have done. Joe has built up a large fan club of children who love the stones he paints for them.
We watch people come on classes here and go away changed for the better. We see great teachers give workshops that draw people from
as far away as St. Lucia, Singapore, and all over Europe. We are very proud to be part of this and see it as our privilege to keep this
wonderful building alive and loved. We look out of the window and see a scene that has not really changed for over one hundred years.
We are as young and as strong as our belief in what we do, and in each other. Most of all I trust in spirit to continue to send the
right people to connect with us and all that we offer.
I believe at our ages we have nothing to lose but boredom unless we fill each day with adventure and love.
I have always had visions and I wanted a hotel to work in and run healing and self awareness workshops for over 20 years. I opened
the Bungalow Hotel for my 64th birthday. When I saw the advert for the hotel I was living and working in Scarborough. For the first
time in my life I had no responsibility for anyone but myself. I read the few lines saying ‘hotel to lease for ten years in
Sandsend‘.
I phoned up and made an appointment to see it that day. I knew nothing about the hotel and I sat down to write to my guide and
asked, I printed out the reply to show to Di: “Go and sit in your railway carriage while we clear the lines and build up the steam
for a journey of a lifetime. We will send you the driver, crew and passengers at the right time.”
We drove to the hotel, a place I had never seen before, and we fell into a magical dream that is still going on. The woman who
showed us around took us into a large room that was immersed in sunshine. Views from all of the windows were like those from a
Disney film. We knew this room would make a perfect classroom, and the other rooms were also full of light and had wonderful views.
We then followed the woman down a long passage and up 5 steps - WOW, “This is where children like to sleep, the railway carriages.”
Di and I collapsed laughing. I sat on the stairs and looked in amazement at the late Victorian carriages. They were converted into
bedrooms! On top of the carriages is Seashell Cottage, a self-contained apartment.
In September 2005 my baby granddaughter was born in that cottage. Yes she was born above train carriages!
And so our adventure continues as does our vision - if you feel that you would like to be part of it, either by coming to stay or
taking part in a class, then I am sure you will recognise the hotel as a magical place. If you would like a reading with me please
call on the day that you are inspired to come along, I live in the now and work one day at a time so will not book appointments in
advance.
With love and blessings, Betty
